Principal Investigator (PhD, Battery Systems / Compliance / QA) – Contingent on SBIR Award

Pittsburgh, PA

Location: Pittsburgh, PA (preferred) or remote with ability to access regional lab facilities
Compensation: $10,000/month (1099 contract basis) – contingent on SBIR award
Start Date: Flexible, pending contract award
Position Type: Part-time or full-time, temporary contract (Phase I – 6 to 18 months)

About the Role

Axyde Analytics is seeking SBIR-ready Principal Investigators (PIs) or senior technical collaborators to lead R&D programs focused on battery quality assurance, compliance validation, and test-to-proof traceability systems. These roles are tied to one or more U.S. government-funded SBIR proposals and are contingent upon successful award.

Our patent-pending architecture enables trusted validation of battery systems through schema-bound QA workflows, export-grade compliance overlays, and embedded test logic (e.g., 1P9 methodology). The candidate will lead technical execution in collaboration with Axyde’s internal engineering team and regional lab partners in Pittsburgh, PA.

Example Project Areas

  • Battery test-to-proof frameworks for defense, energy, and EV systems

  • Compliance overlays for field-deployable battery validation

  • Integration of schema-bound QA and VIN-anchored battery certification

  • Modular performance logging and edge sync logic (DDIL-aware)

  • Export-compliant traceability systems using sensor + software overlays

Note: Applicants do not need to be experts in all these areas — we are hiring across multiple overlapping proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as named Principal Investigator on one or more SBIR proposals

  • Lead or support lab-scale testing of battery systems, sensors, or data capture tools

  • Oversee technical execution of battery compliance and QA logic (software/hardware hybrid)

  • Collaborate with Axyde to document results, write reports, and achieve milestones

  • Work with CMU-affiliated test labs, ANSYS Lab, or other facilities as needed

  • Participate in proposal development (optional but welcomed)

 Ideal Background

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or similar

  • Experience with battery testing, compliance frameworks, BMS integration, or QA systems

  • Comfortable with sensor integration, embedded logging, or testbed configuration

  • SBIR experience (PI, co-PI, contributor) is a plus

  • Based near Pittsburgh or willing to travel occasionally to local lab facilities

What We Offer

  • $10,000/month (1099) under a work-for-hire model

  • Full IP retained by Axyde — no co-ownership or licensing offered

  • Flexible engagement: part-time or full-time depending on project scope and interest

  • Opportunity to lead federally relevant, compliance-driven battery QA innovation

  • Phase II/III growth pathways for candidates interested in longer-term roles
