Principal Investigator (PhD, Human-Centered Risk / Situational Compliance Systems) – Contingent on SBIR Award

Pittsburgh, PA

Location: Pittsburgh, PA (preferred) or remote with ability to access regional lab or roleplay test facilities
Compensation: $8,000–$10,000/month (1099 contract basis) – contingent on SBIR award
Start Date: Flexible, pending contract award
Position Type: Part-time or full-time, temporary contract (6 to 18 months)

About the Role

Axyde Analytics is seeking SBIR-ready Principal Investigators (PIs) or senior collaborators to help lead development of SituIQ — a schema-based situational compliance platform that maps emotional risk, legal exposure, and operational behavior into field-deployable UX systems.

SituIQ is designed to choreograph high-pressure decisions in domains like law enforcement, emergency medicine, school safety, private security, and tribal governance. These roles are tied to multiple SBIR proposals and are contingent upon successful award.

Successful candidates will join modular SBIR teams working under Axyde’s Richmond-based program management and Pittsburgh-based system design group.

Example Project Areas

  • Use-of-force orchestration for patrol officers and SROs

  • DDIL-aware decision logging in ER or trauma environments

  • Emotional compliance overlays in tribal or sovereign settings

  • Persona-driven safety UX for school crisis response

  • Private security risk routing in casinos, stadiums, or ports

  • Portable kits for timestamped, schema-bound incident documentation

Note: You do not need to be an expert in all these areas — we are hiring across overlapping proposal tracks.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as named or supporting Principal Investigator on one or more SituIQ SBIRs

  • Lead system design, field test planning, or behavioral orchestration UX development

  • Collaborate with core program managers and engineers in Richmond and Pittsburgh

  • Coordinate with law enforcement, EMS, tribal, or venue-based stakeholders as needed

  • Participate in deliverable documentation and milestone reporting

  • (Optional) Assist with proposal development and pilot configuration

Ideal Background

  • PhD or equivalent applied experience in Human-Centered Design, Behavioral Systems, Public Safety Tech, or Applied Policy

  • Strong familiarity with risk orchestration, situational awareness, decision audit systems, or UX in high-emotion environments

  • Experience with any of the following is a plus:

    • Law enforcement or ER operations

    • Tribal or sovereign security frameworks

    • DDIL / degraded ops design

    • DHS SAFETY Act environments

    • School safety and behavioral risk programs

  • Based near Pittsburgh or Richmond, or willing to coordinate remotely with test and integration hubs

What We Offer

  • $8,000–$10,000/month (1099) under a work-for-hire model

  • Modular participation across active SBIR pathways

  • IP fully retained by Axyde — no licensing or co-ownership offered

  • Flexible, modular execution scope tailored to domain fit and proposal needs

  • Opportunity to help define a new class of emotionally aware, legally aligned decision orchestration systems

  • Pathways to Phase II/III execution leadership or long-term systems integration roles
